Glorious
sunshine helped to attract a record turn-out to Thatchers Open Day on
Saturday 20th September.
Organisers estimate that up to 2,000 people attended the biennial event, held at the Thatchers Cider Mill in Sandford.
“We had tours of the mill running continuously during the day, people were really keen to see our orchards, and follow the cider making process through from the apple to bottle,” comments managing director Martin Thatcher. “It was by far the most well-attended open day we have had.
“We are a family company in the heart of a rural community, and we’re delighted to open our doors to our friends, neighbours and customers as a thank-you to everyone for their support.”
As well as guided tours of the cider mill and press, visitors were able to see the orchards, learn about harvesting methods, sample the Thatchers range of ciders, and be entertained by the Mendip Morris Men. For the children there were activities including a bouncy castle and face-painting. All proceeds from the hog roast went to The Samaritans, while the Sandford Primary School PTA provided the refreshments.
