Vintage varieties of apples such as Dabinett and Red Streak have been used in a new Applewood Cider which is a collaboration between award-winning Hall & Woodhouse (founded in 1777) and Thatchers Cider (founded in 1904). With over 300 years of history spanning many generations between the two companies, the new Applewood Cider is an example of cider making expertise and brewing passion.
Aged in Oak, and made to recipes which have been handed down through four generations of the Thatcher family, the new Applewood Cider is the first cider to be bottled by family brewers Hall & Woodhouse. It joins the Brewery’s premium traditional bottled ales including best selling and multi award-winning Tanglewood and Fursty Ferret.
“This has been a great project to work on with Thatchers and the result is, we believe, the first national Cider brand in off-trade to be launched in Dorset. Badger is proud to put Dorset on the map with this new premium Vintage variety Cider. We know that cider is bought by 30% of households and that real ale and cider are bought by the same consumers, so we have been keen to add a premium cider with real provenance to our stable. Thatchers Cider is known throughout the UK and we feel that the team at Thatchers has the same values and ethos as Hall & Woodhouse – to produce premium quality, distinctive drinks with a regional story,” said Rick Payne, Brands Marketing Manager at Hall & Woodhouse.
The new Applewood Cider is rustic, medium dry, and 6% ABV. The apples used are grown in the West Country where rich fertile soils provide perfect apple growing conditions.
Hall & Woodhouse, based in Blandford, Dorset is the largest regional family brewer of premium ales in the UK.
